Throughout the review period of 2000-2010, the Australian accumulators, primary cells and primary batteries market grew at annual average growth rate of 6%. Australia is the world´s second largest producer of lithium, accounting for 23% of the world´s lithium mining industry.

However, while being the second leading country in terms of mining, Australia is doing less well in the manufacture of lithium cells and batteries. Total market size for accumulators, primary cells and primary batteries reached A$907 million in 2010, expanding by 76% since the beginning of the review period. B2B transactions are the primary customer group, generating 64% of the total in 2000, while this share increased to 68% of the total at the end of the review period.

Households generated15% of total sales in 2010, growing at an annual rate of 8%. At the end of the review period, 17% of products sold by the industry were used as durable goods.
