Johnson & Johnson Pacific Pty Ltd remained the leading manufacturer in the Australia digestive remedies market. The company is present in a number of digestive remedies categories, in which it offers a range of widely-recognised brands, most notably Mylanta and Imodium. Mylanta, for example, is the leading digestive remedies brand and recorded a 23% value share of antacid sales in 2012, while Imodium recorded a 36% value share in diarrhoeal remedies.

The 5% current value growth seen in 2012 was in line with the review period CAGR, but more subdued than that seen in 2011 when a current value rise of 7% was seen. This is partly due to the fact that sales of diarrhoeal remedies returned to normal trading performance

 

 

following the Queensland floods of the summer of 2010 and 2011.

Australias ageing population will continue to be a key factor driving the performance of digestive remedies. According to Euromonitor Internationals countries and consumers data, there will be 3,859,000 Australians aged over 65 in 2017, up from 3,215,000 over 65s in 2012. With health concerns such as heartburn and indigestion occurring more frequently in consumers over the age of 40, demand for digestive remedies will remain strong over the forecast period.
