The Australian market for electricity distribution and control apparatus was valued at A$2.3 billion in 2010, averaging 6% annual revenue growth since 2000. More than 90% of the market´s total product value was purchased by B2B buyers in Australia in 2010, including 16% share for investment purposes. Household expenditure meanwhile comprised less than 10% of market sales.

The market is dominated by imports, with foreign goods capturing 89% of total value sales at the end of 2010. Overall import value increased by 93% in the review period and China was the most prominent contributor to this growth.

By 2010, Chinese producers captured a major 17% import value share within the industry and overtook the US as the largest foreign supplier for the first time. Other significant importers include technology-rich European countries, with Germany, Switzerland and France representing 13%, 6% and 5% respectively of total import value in 2010.
