The market for fish and fish products in Australia grew at an average annual rate of 8% over the review period, more than doubling over 2000-2010. The market for fish and fish products was rather stable and subject to the general economic situation to only a minor extent.

The major buyers of production were households with 63% of the total market in 2010. As compared with 2000, demand from these customers doubled. The domestic fish and fish products industry is rather substantial. The turnover of domestic producers grew at an average annual rate of 5%



over the review period to reach A$2 billion by the end of 2010.

The smallest category of the industry was salted, dried or canned seafood, which generated 9% of the total turnover of local manufacturers in 2010.
