The Australian glass market was valued at A$2.8billion in 2010, after sales grew on average by 4% per year since 2000. B2B consumers accounted for a dominant 79% value share of total market sales and only 21% share was generated by Australian households in 2010.

Imports captured 31% of total market value in 2010. Foreign production mainly comes from China. This country firmly established itself as the leading provider for the Australian glass market, capturing 32% of all import sales in 2010. Another 13% of import value is supplied by the US. Thai manufacturers contributed 6% share, whereas German and Italian makers both added 4% share to total glass import value sales.

The local industry includes more than 1,200 producers with their combined annual turnover reaching A$1.7 billion in 2010. The total number of industry participants gradually declined during the review period, leaving just 37 large firms present in the industry by 2010.
