Publishing of Newspapers and Journals in Australia: ISIC 2212 - a new market research report on 2014-04-01 17:23:02
The publishing of newspapers and journals was a flourishing industry in Australia throughout 2000-2010. After doubling in size, the market reached a value of more than A$10 billion in 2010. In 2008, the market was hit by the economic recession but it was quick to recover. By 2010, the demand already exceeded pre-crisis levels.

Average annual growth during the review period amounted to 9%. The market´s successful performance was mainly due to its players´ ability to adapt to a changing business environment. Publishers had to keep up with the on-going digitisation of media channels. The internet is close to becoming a standard publishing channel. Reading newspapers and magazines is one of the most popular online activities among Australians.

Households are the dominant purchasing power. Households´ share of demand remained fairly stable and amounted to 67% over the review period. B2B consumers accounted for 32% of purchases in 2010, up four percentage points since 2000.
