During the review period, the Australian publishing of recorded audio media market suffered from the soaring popularity of illegal downloading. However, it still expanded sales by 12% since 2000 to reach a value of nearly A$2 billion in 2010.
During the review period, the demand was characterised by significant fluctuations. It faced both sharp year-on-year decline as well as steep expansion. The customer structure also changed. By the end of the review period, 39% of total sales were attributable to B2B consumers, compared to 29% share in 2000.
Households´ share of total demand also increased by 11 percentage points since 2000, to reach 52% of total purchases in 2010. The latter two client groups gained share due to declining purchases for investment
purposes, which amounted to 9% of total sales in 2010, down 21 percentage points compared to 2000.
