Australia's machinery for rubber, plastics and paper industries imports declined by 8% during the period 2007 to 2012

Domestic demand for machinery for rubber, plastics and paper industries and other special purpose machinery contracts by 13% over review period in Australia to stand at A$4.2 billion in 2012. Imports fall by 8% over review period, penetration remains at 62%, pointing to weak domestic industry.

Local manufacturers see turnover decrease from A$1.5 billion in 2007 to A$1.4 billion in 2012, equivalent to net 10% drop over review period. Faced with falling demand, domestic manufacturers struggle to maintain profitability over 2007-2012.

Due to strong international competition and expensive Australian dollar, exports decline 16% in 2012 to reach A$589 million. Industry´s turnover expected to see 2% CAGR over forecast period.
