Starches and Starch Products in Australia: ISIC 1532 - a new market research report on 2014-04-01 16:29:01
The Australian starches and starch products market is rather old but nevertheless almost doubled in size during the review period from 2000 to 2010. Starch and starch products are commonly produced from several types of grains: wheat, rye, barley, oats, maize, rice and buckwheat. Australia has very beneficial climatic conditions for the production of wheat and thus has high levels of current production.

These resources are so abundant that Australia is among the major exporters of wheat. In addition, almost half of Australian wheat is used to produce starch and similar products. Therefore, the Australian starch market is substantial and in 2010 was valued at A$2.2billion. Furthermore, during the review period the market displayed a remarkable growth rate of 7% per annum.

As starch is an essential ingredient in many diets, demand is rather inelastic. During the economic downturn towards the end of the review period the industry continued to expand and to yield positive growth rates.
