Wood and Wood Products in Australia: ISIC 20 - a new market research report on 2014-04-01 17:15:03
Growing 6% annually over 2000-2010, the Australian wood and wood products industry will continue to benefit from availability of local sustainable wood resources and recovering demand from the housing and construction industry. Increasing by a net 75% over the decade under review, the Australian wood and wood products market reached a value of A$16.2 billion in 2010.

The market displayed volatile changes in value, with high growth often followed by very small increases or even decline. Interestingly, the market saw slight year-on-year growth of 2% in 2009, although the economic downturn and cooling of the construction category reduced demand notably for sawn wood and softwood.

Businesses are undoubtedly the largest buyers of wood and wood products, accounting for a 98% value share of purchases over the decade. Among them, the construction industry holds an important position, both for new builds and renovation of existing buildings. Other buyers include furniture manufacturers.
