Pandurata Alimentos saw the largest increase in value share within the Brazil baked goods market in 2012. Efforts in distribution and marketing activities during special occasions such as the Easter and Christmas seasons contributed to its good performance. The company has a strong presence in seasonal goods through the Bauducco brand.

The increases in the price of wheat in the second half of 2012 have forced manufacturers to increase unit prices. Because of this, baked goods increased by 11% in current value terms in 2012, which was faster than the CAGR of 8% registered during the 2007-2012 period.

Sales of baked goods are predicted to grow by 6% in volume and 16% in constant value terms over the 2012-2017 period. Artisanal bread will continue accounting for the largest sales within the category. Artisanal bread consumption varies across Brazil. While in the southeast region consumption is around 50kg per capita, in the northeast region it is less than 15kg. Consequently, the bakery association Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Panificação e Confeitaria (ABIP) believes that the category still has good potential to increase consumption of artisanal bread during the 2012-2017 period in less developed regions of the country.
