Brazil cider market: 10% growth witnessed during 2012

Vitivinícola Cereser remains the dominant player in cider/perry in 2012, with a total volume share of 79%. The company has reaffirmed its intention to diversify its portfolio towards other alcoholic drinks, such as wine, spirits and spirit-based RTDs. However, to maintain its leadership in cider/perry, the company launched new flavours, including passion fruit, berries and strawberry.

Cider/perry posted a 10% increase in total current value sales in 2012. This was mainly achieved by the rise in consumption of cider/perry by lower-income consumers, especially at parties and on special occasions, such as Christmas, New Year´s Eve and Carnival.

It is estimated that cider/perry will register a 3% total volume CAGR over the forecast period. However, this is slower that the review period CAGR



of 6%. The anticipated slowdown in growth is due to lower-income consumers moving to alternative alcoholic drinks, such as "other" sparkling wines, especially ones with economy positioning.
