Nutrimental ranked first in the Brazil snak bars market with a 33% value share in 2012. The company was a pioneer in the category and has a wide distribution network. Despite fierce competition, Nutrimental increased its value share between 2007 and 2012, due to constant innovations in terms of new flavours and expansion into small grocery stores. Recent launches include new versions of light granola/muesli bars and Nutry Ativa, the first functional snack bar, which promises to improve intestinal function, and was launched in 2011.

The category saw value growth of 24% in 2012, which was slightly superior to the CAGR of 22% registered during the 2007-2012 period. Volume growth of 15% in 2012 was marginally below the CAGR between 2007 and 2012. The higher value growth than volume growth in 2012 was due to manufacturers price adjustments during the year.

Snack bars are expected to register value growth of 86% over the 2012-2017 period, with growing demand among low-income consumers and improvements in distribution networks being the main drivers boosting sales of such products.
