Cia Müller de Bebidas remains the leading player in spirits in 2012, accounting for a 17% share of total volume sales. The company´s position is attributable to its strong lead in "other" spirits, mainly through Pirassununga 51, a cachaça brand.

Some spirits posted strong total volume sales increases in 2012, such as other blended Scotch whisky and vodka, though growth was slower than in 2011. Despite the increase in disposable income of lower-income households, which saw them trade-up to higher-value products, consumers became more cautions about spending, especially with high inflation and the rising number of people in debt, in 2012.

Spirits is projected to post only a very marginal total volume CAGR over the forecast period. This weak growth is mainly



informed by the anticipated decline in sales of brandy and cachaça.
