Pioneer Corp remains the second leading player in in-car entertainment in Japan. The company´s main focus in in-car entertainment is in-dash video players and in-car navigation, through Pioneer Carozzeria. Pioneer is largely committed to the automotive aftermarket, which accounted for a 48% share of the company´s car electronics sales in 2012. This is much higher than its main competitor Panasonic Corp, which derived 10% of in-car entertainment sales from the automotive aftermarket.
The rise of car manufacturers and dealerships was a key story in 2012. Sales through this distribution channel are not included as retail purchases, according to Euromonitor International´s definitions. This is because devices are purchased as a part of the upfront cost with the vehicle.
