A new gas field, named Marlin, has been commissioned in 2011 on the Foxtrot block. This field should revive the decreasing gas production resulting of the silting-up of wells. Lukoil, which failed to find oil reserves in 2011, announced a cut by 10% of its investments over the next 10 years.

Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
