2013-01-09 20:13:32 - Esprit - Verdict Company Briefing - a new company profile report on companiesandmarkets.com

Esprit has endured a tough period of trading, with a slump in sales and a 98.1% decline in profits for 2010/11, resulting in a number of key management changes in 2012. Having pulled out of North America and its European and Asian markets struggling, it faces challenges ahead. This Verdict company briefing includes clothing sales data spilt down by womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and footwear.

Report Scope

- Justify and inform development of having an international presence by uncovering Esprit´s challenges and opportunities in the markets it operates in.
- Benchmark Esprit´s performance in clothing by using sales data for womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and accessories.
- Understand the importance of creating a seamless image through product ranges and store formats in order to maximise the

potential of your own brand

Key Highlights

Performance will recover slowly over the next five years as it continues its transformation programme, with significant risk from a renewed decline in consumer spending in core markets as they slip back into recession. However, its reliance on Germany could protect it from deeper declines given it has fared better than others in the eurozone

Esprit closed its directly managed US and Canadian stores in 2012. This is part of a global closure programme, and HK$1.8bn has been earmarked to close unprofitable stores over four years. Its aim is to build on existing business in the countries it already operates in by emulating the remodelled flagship stores that showcase the new design concept

To give its ranges greater fashion content, in 2012 Esprit set up a new trend division in London with the aim of creating new designs and delivering the finished product within eight weeks. These changes are essential for Esprit to revive its fashion relevance as it comes under pressure from rivals like Zara, which have much faster turnaround times

Reasons to Buy

- How have Esprit´s clothing sales and densities developed and how does Verdict see this changing?
- What challenges does Esprit face and which markets should it be focusing on? How will alternative sourcing help recover margins and profitability?
- How should Esprit differentiate its clothing offer and compete with growing global players Zara and H&M?
- Will Esprit´s new clothing range resonate well with consumers, and why is it so important that it improves its reactiveness to trends?
