Canned/preserved food will continue to suffer from category saturation due to its maturity. Thus high private label shares and the dynamic growth in fresh, frozen and chilled food will also challenge it in the forecast period. The consumer perception of canned/preserved food being old fashioned, of low quality and having low nutritional value, is unlikely to change significantly, although consumers will carry on purchasing these as cupboard fillers and as a cheap alternative to other food products, particularly if money is in short supply.
