Hong Kong Water Market: New industry data published
Hong Kong Water Report Q1 2014 - a new market research report on 2014-04-02 12:14:04
The uncertainty surrounding the steady supply of water from the Dongjiang in mainland China has forced the authorities in Hong Kong to develop a strategy and a number of projects that reduce the demand for fresh water, while also tapping alternative water sources of water supply. The projects involve the refurbishment of existing water networks, the construction and expansion of water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants and desalination projects. Combines, these measures are expected to reduce water extraction and consumption during the forecast period.

However, as the country´s water-consuming industries maintain their momentous growth, Hong Kong´s water and sewage treatment segments will gain importance, as the demand for water will continue to increase. The government is trying to expand the use of seawater for other activities besides flushing.

Currently, approximately 80% of Hong Kong´s households receive seawater for flushing purposes, which saves approximately 73bn gallons of freshwater annually.
