India home insecticides market: Rs36.6 billion industry forecast by 2017

With value share of 36%, Godrej Consumer Products continued to dominate the India home insecticides market in 2012. Although not the leading brand in electric insecticides, its Good Knight continued to perform well with 28% value share to ranked second. Good Knight continued to eat into the share of SC Johnson?s All Out Double Power, by investing heavily in its distribution network. Additionally, Good Knight?s aerosols business also experienced huge growth in sales due to affordability and easy availability.

2012?s current value sales growth of 9% was comparable to the review period average. The growth in 2012 was contributed by spray/aerosol insecticides and electric insecticides that killed insects instantly and therefore gained popularity amongst consumers. Additionally, with consumers in rural areas

 

 

becoming more aware of diseases such as malaria and chicken guinea, the sales of home insecticides and coils in particular also witnessed a strong increase.

Home insecticides is predicted to grow by a constant value CAGR of 3% over the forecast period to reach Rs36.6 billion by 2017. Premium products such as spray/aerosol insecticides and electric insecticides are likely to make inroads into Tier II and Tier III cities over the forecast period. Increasing numbers of consumers are likely to switch from coils to spray/aerosol which is more convenient, effective, and instant in its action. Additionally, tremendous growth in spray/aerosol sales is likely to eat into the share of coils which constituted the largest value share in 2012.
