Indonesia beer market: Beer exports still at low level
Indonesia Beer Market Insights 2013 - a new market research report on 2014-04-24 00:27:02
Looking at the Indonesia beer market by age, more than 80% of consumers in this category are males with the majority of that figure over 25. Unpredictable weather fluctuations continue to play on the consumption of beer

Beer exports have been relatively low for several years due to the comparatively strong local currency, which heightened the demand for imported premium beer. Since Indonesia is one of the largest Muslim countries in the world, the import of beer and other alcoholic beverages is officially restrictive.

The number of beer brands in Indonesia has hardly changed since 2003. However, in the near future, after the newly imposed excise tariffs and the appointment of eight additional importers, the number of brands is expected to increase

The beer market in Indonesia is highly consolidated and three brands hold a significant share. Glass consistently has over 80% of the packaging total share, while brewers actively try to promote alternative packaging.

On-premise (64%) consumption holds a higher share than off-premise (36%), a long standing split in Indonesia. During 2012 market value increased dramatically as a result of the imposed tax: companies were unable to prevent the cost increases from influencing the retail prices any longer.
