Sets/kits in Ireland remains extremely fragmented in terms of company sales. However, Unilever leads with a 5% value share. This stems from the continuing popularity of the Lynx Male Grooming Set, which continues to see fragrance additions, and the Dove Men+ Care range, which has witnessed continued growth since its launch in 2010. Beiersdorf achieved second position in the category in 2012, also with 5% of total value sales. The company´s Nivea brand saw positive performances in both men´s and women´s product ranges during the year.

Sets/kits continues to experience a resurgence in popularity as a result of recessionary conditions and reduced levels of disposable incomes overall. Historically these types of products were popular as gifts especially during the Christmas period. However, they fell out of favour during the boom period of the late 1990s and early 2000s as consumers moved to more expensive, frivolous and even ostentatious gift options.

Sets/kits is expected to register a CAGR of 2% over the forecast period. The category will benefit from austere budgetary conditions in the short term, with an improved performance compared with that seen over the review period. However, in the longer term, it may struggle to escape the perception of products being suitable merely as seasonal gifts rather than as a viable means to test products, or to achieve better value for money when purchasing a range of products.
