Kuwait struggling to manage its produced water
Produced Water Market Analysis in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries - a new market research report on 2014-04-30 09:23:03
Produced Water (PW) is the largest waste stream from hydrocarbon production. Daily water production volumes significantly exceed that of oil volumes. Oman is the highest Gulf Cooperation Council country net PW generator. PW needs to be treated as per the various regulations followed in the GCC. Proper PW treatment is highly important, as O&G wells need to be closed if the water cut (water to oil ratio) exceeds a certain limit depending upon economical parameters.
PW treatment is a major area of research and development. PW Society (PWS), Global Water Summit, International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), some water treatment companies, educational institutions, and government agencies are working to improve the existing standards of PW treatment.
Low energy consumption technologies are being preferred in GCC. Operation is the most profitable business for PW market participants. Entering into R&D agreement with O&G companies and developing technologies and products in-house can provide long-term operation contracts. Kuwait is struggling to manage its PW and it is the right time to provide service in the country. A large number of companies just supply equipment and then leave the market. The time is ripe for sustained presence in GCC.
