The Dutch life insurance segment is the fifth largest in Europe in terms of gross written premiums. The life insurance segment holds the second-largest share of the country´s insurance industry, with 27.1% of the total gross written premiums in 2011. During the review period (2007–2011), the life insurance industry in the Netherlands went through some serious setbacks.
