The electricity capacity has been multiplied by 1.5 since 2007. A 36 MW power plant has been commissioned at Nouakchott in 2010 and 2011 (cost of US $60m), as well as a 22 MW power plant in Nouhadibou in 2011. Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
