2014-01-09 10:24:01 - Al-Islami Foods in Consumer Foodservice (United Arab Emirates) - a new company profile report on companiesandmarkets.com

The success achieved by Al Islami products across the UAE and the GCC played an important role in fostering more moves to provide as many Halal products as possible. In 1991, Dubai Cooperative Society successfully established Al Islami food processing plant in Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, built on a 6,900 square meter plot with a daily meat production capacity of 25 tons. Consumer foodservice saw a strong performance during the review period in the United Arab Emirates. Despite an economic downturn in 2009, growth was linked to a strong economic performance for the country as a whole, which resulted in rising incomes for many consumers. Moreover, the country´s population increased rapidly over the 2007-2012 period, whilst tourist arrivals

also saw significant growth, creating stronger demand for consumer foodservice.

Fast food and cafés/bars in particular experienced rapid growth in 2012, as these channels managed to best take advantage of consumers in the country seeking quick and convenient meal solutions, as well as increasingly socialising with friends over coffee or a drink in the evening. Chained players also invested heavily in further outlet expansion in these channels. In addition, home delivery became more popular towards the end of the review period, with a number of players using this option in order to increase sales.

The leading players in 2012 included domestic franchisees representing international brands, such as Kuwait Food Co (Americana) with KFC and Pizza Hut, and Emirates Fast Food Co with McDonald´s. These brands tend to appeal to a wide range of consumers in the United Arab Emirates, which is characterised by a highly diverse population. Domestic franchisees, meanwhile, provide the business connections required to expand the outlet networks in the country´s prime locations.
