New C&M analysis: Italy Tourism Flows Domestic Market

Print article Print article
2014-01-09 13:24:03 - Tourism Flows Domestic in Italy - a new market research report on

The number of domestic trips taken in 2012 declined by 1% in volume terms, dropping to 87.3 million. This was mainly due to the economic and financial crisis, higher tax level and lower employment rate, a constant increase in the cost of petrol, which all strongly impacted the total budget for holidays, as Italians started paying greater attention to transport costs. Therefore, Italians in many cases preferred to stay at home without travelling at all.

It is expected that number of domestic trips will increase only marginally in average volume terms during the forecast period, reaching 88.9 million trips by 2017. In particular, growth rates are expected to increase more from 2014 onwards given that in 2013 Italy is still expected

to be affected by the crisis and to suffer from the recession.
