2014-03-18 23:15:02 - Transportation in Italy - a new market research report on

Low cost carriers experienced the strongest current value growth in transportation in Italy in 2012. Value sales of overall transportation grew by 2% in 2012 with low cost airlines recording growth of 8% in 2012, reaching €4.1 billion. This was due to an increased offer of low cost routes within Italian and European cities, together with an increased attention on budget expenditures by Italians who are going through a difficult period because of the economic and financial crisis.

In October 2011, Meridiana Fly SpA completed the acquisition of Air Italy SpA, creating a new Italian air transport group, Meridiana Fly-Air Italy. Meridiana fly registered a loss in 2011 and therefore started to reduce its personnel together with other costs.

Transportation is expected

to perform well over the forecast period. In particular, the number of air passengers is expected to grow by a 4% volume CAGR, reaching 194 million people, and air sales are expected to increase by a 2% constant value CAGR, reaching €15.6 billion by 2017.
