2014-01-09 11:32:01 - Travel Accommodation in Thailand - a new market research report on companiesandmarkets.com

Another positive year of travel accommodation in Thailand was a result of new travel accommodation becoming established and existing players upgrading their facilities to serve an increasing number of local and international tourists. Chained hotels expanded with new outlets in popular destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Samui, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Pattaya. Other accommodation gained the largest number of outlets, while the largest total value sales belonged to hotels. International chained and local chained hotels moved aggressively in Thailand. The key strategy of chained hotels was to expand their portfolios into all ranges of hotels from luxury to budget hotels in order to diversify risks.

The hotel environment in Thailand is very fragmented. Chained hotels play a significant role in

promoting hotel sales. The leading player is international chained hotel of Accor Group. Accor recorded a number of outlets reaching 54 locations under 7 major brands of All Seasons, Ibis, Mercure, MGallery, Novotel, Pullman and Sofitel as well as other Accor brands of Hotel Natural Ville Bangkok, Grand Sukhumvit Hotel Bangkok, Hotel Le Fenix Sukhumvit, Bangkok Hotel Lotus Sukhumvit, and Hotel V Villas Hua Hin. Bangkok is the key destination of hotel expansion for Accor which was registered at 27 locations; the second popular location is Phuket which recorded 11 locations and 4 locations each in Pattaya and Hua Hin as well as other places in Chiang Mai, Chumphon, Samui, Khon Kaen, Koh Chang, Nonthaburi and Rayong. Accor Group is unlikely to stop expanding its network hotels in Thailand due to its plan to introduce several hotels in key tourist destinations such as Cha Am, Phuket, Bangkok, Sriracha and Krabi.

Travel accommodation is expected to record a positive performance over the forecast period. Chained hotels will expect to be key players by expanding their own named outlets, as well as acquiring more hotels by offering management services. Hotel expansion lines will continue to be concentrated among key tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Hua Hin, Cha Am, Pattaya, Phuket and Krabi. However, new potential locations which witnessed more local tourists visit more often are Khao Yai and Suan Pheng district in Ratchaburi province. Those locations are popular among Thais, in particular during winter time at the end of the year, when there are usually special winter concerts which can attract massive numbers of local tourists.
