2013-07-23 15:22:34 - Recently published research from Business Monitor International, "Taiwan Infrastructure Report Q3 2013", is now available at Fast Market Research

As expected, Taiwan's construction sector is experiencing a short-term recovery, with growth achieved for the first quarter (in Q1 2013) since Q211. However, the recovery in construction activity is expected to be mild, with construction real growth forecast to reach 2.0% in 2013. This is primarily due to our expectations of a steep economic slowdown in China, Taiwan's main trading partner, in H213. Over the long term, we expect Taiwan's construction sector to outperform its 10-year historical average, though we remain concerned about Taiwan's demographic profile and the lack of progress with achieving greater economic integration with China.

* In April 2013, negotiations between the Taipei city government

and BES Engineering over the development of the Taipei Twin Towers project have yet to take place due to an ongoing probe into bribery allegations in the project's bidding process. The investigation is expected to be completed by June 2013.
* In April 2013, Kuodeng Construction started construction work on the long-stalled Kinmen Bridge, which will link Kinmen Island and Lieyu County in Taiwan. Kinmen County Commissioner Lee Wo-shih expressed optimism that the firm would be able to cope with the delays that have hindered the project's progress. The development on the project was welcomed by residents as the project was only considered an empty promise brought up during elections. It was initially outsourced by the Taiwan Area National Expressway Engineering Bureau to Huachi Construction for TWD6.5bn (US$217mn). Construction started in May 2012 and was scheduled to be completed by 2016. The project's deadline has since been moved back to August 2017.
* In June 2013, French airport developer ADPI announced that it was awarded a contract to develop the runways at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, reports Airport-Technology. The EUR150mn (US $195mn) project will involve the construction of a new quick exit lane and additional parking areas, as well as the extension of south runway. Work is scheduled for completion in 2014. The runways will subsequently be able to accommodate wider-bodied aircraft such as the airbus A380.
