New Market Report: Prefabricated Home Manufacturing in the US

Print article Print article
2012-11-20 06:37:03 - New Construction research report from IBISWorld is now available from Fast Market Research

Across the fence: Increased competition has reduced sales and forced some players out

Site-built home prices have fallen since the subprime crisis, thus presenting a higher degree of price-based competition for the industry. As a result of falling prices, consumers have been more likely to purchase site-built homes rather than manufactured or modular alternatives. Further, rising unemployment levels have reduced household discretionary income levels, resulting in fewer overall housing purchases as consumers delayed buying homes until economic conditions improved. In response to such negative market conditions, companies have been forced to exit the market, merge or be acquired by competing firms.

Companies in the industry produce manufactured (mobile) and modular (prefabricated) homes and buildings as well as sections and panels for prefabricated

wood buildings. Manufactured homes are constructed entirely in a factory-controlled environment and typically come equipped with wheels. Modular homes are manufactured in sections and then transported to the home site for final assembly.
