Rives-Pitman remains the leading player in the Spain concentrates market, with a 46% share of off-trade value sales in 2012. Its leadership is attributed to a dominance of liquid concentrates, where it held an 84% share of off-trade value sales.

Liquid concentrates are more associated with the on-trade channel. These products are used mainly to accompany cocktails in bars and night clubs. In 2012, on-trade volume and current value sales of liquid concentrates continued to fall. With consumers cutting down on leisure expenditure and spending more free time at home, bars and restaurants continued to witness a decline in visitors. This affected most products offered by foodservice operators, including liquid concentrates.

Over the forecast period, concentrates is expected to off-trade volume growth



in both formats. Liquid concentrates will continue to gain consumers in the off-trade channel, due to growth of the „cocktail culture‟. This trend will be enhanced by the increasing cocooning trend, with the ongoing economic crisis encouraging more consumers to spend leisure time at home, including the consumption of spirits and cocktails – mixed with concentrates. Meanwhile, powder concentrates will continue to benefit from the increasing demand for fortified/functional products from the rising number of consumers who exercise or play sports regularly.
