UK other hot drinks amrket increase by 4% in 2013

Other hot drinks are perceived as being favoured by the older consumer. The UK´s ageing population helped the category to achieve current value growth of 4% in 2013. However, the category has recently also started to attract younger consumers thanks to a range of new product developments. The other hot drinks industry is also enjoying a resurgence thanks to health-conscious consumers being willing to try the wider variety of healthier drinks available today.

Cadbury UK Ltd maintained its status as the leading company in other hot drinks in 2013 with a 22% value share. The company is particularly prominent in chocolate-based flavoured powder drinks where it commands a 30% value share, mainly down to the success of new product launches such as its chocolate pods and replacing its sachets with sticks for the Highlights and Instant brands. The majority of companies actually lost share in other hot drinks in 2013, with Cadbury being one of the very few exceptions.

There is a limited amount of innovation in the category as other hot drinks struggles to keep pace with the startling rise of coffee and even some tea categories. The one piece of good news is the success of chocolate pods, which are benefiting from the rapid growth of pod machines.
