Chemists/pharmacies continued to be the leading retail channel for beauty and personal care in the UK in 2012, although other channels are catching up quickly. The channel to achieve the greatest share gain in 2012 was internet retailing. This was mainly driven by the increased online sales of health and beauty and grocery retailers.

The beauty and personal care industry will continue to grow over the forecast period. The majority of products sold in this industry are seen as essential items to UK consumers, which means that they will continue to buy them even when experiencing economic hardship. The dynamic nature of the industry in the UK is another factor driving sales, with manufacturers introducing new products on a regular basis.
